Boys basketball: Fort Stockton drops Andrews rematch

The Panthers basketball team attempted to form their first win streak in district play on Feb. 4 at Andrews, coming off an upset of Greenwood at home on Feb. 1.
Fort Stockton (6-21) picked up where they left off against the Rangers, charging out to a 10-9 lead after the first quarter.

The Mustangs (20-8) controlled the contest in the final three quarters, outscoring the Panthers 38-16 the rest of the way in a 47-26 victory for Andrews.

Girls basketball: Prowlers eliminated from postseason contention

The Fort Stockton girls basketball team needed a win on Feb. 4 at Andrews in order to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Prowlers (10-20) nearly defeated the Mustangs (7-21) at home – losing by six in their first meeting on Jan. 18 – and the result was nearly identical this past Friday in a 41-35 loss.

UIL realignment: Fort Stockton football joined by rivals Monahans, Pecos in new district

The 2022-2024 district football alignments were released by the University Interscholastic League on Feb. 3.

Fort Stockton will be facing some familiar foes and get some new competition as they move down from 4A Division I to 4A Division II.

The Panthers will be joined in 4A Division II District 1 by local rivals Monahans and Pecos, along with Clint, Mountain View, and Fabens.

Fort Stockton downed by district elites

The Fort Stockton girls basketball team competed against the top two teams in District 2-4A – Seminole and Greenwood – over the last seven days.

The Prowlers were downed by the Seminole in a road matchup by the score of 88-25. The Maidens are the only undefeated team left in the district and ranked No. 18 in Class 4A according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

Panthers stun Greenwood, claim first district win

As the saying goes, revenge is a dish best served cold.

The Fort Stockton boys basketball team was defeated by Greenwood on the Rangers home floor on Jan. 14 by the score of 73-45. The Panthers were able to avenge that loss at the Special Events Center on Feb. 1, scoring a season-high point total in a 71-61 victory over the Rangers (17-7). The victory marked their first district win of the season.

Panther freshmen continue win streak, improve record to 9-2

The Fort Stockton freshman team claimed their fourth consecutive victory on Jan. 24 against Monahans, maintaining their perfect record against district competition on their home floor.

Christian Soto scored a game-high 12 points in Fort Stockton’s 51-38 victory over the Loboes. Evan Cordero contributed 10 points for the Panthers on Tuesday.

Fort Stockton freshman coach Richard Rojas credited his team’s defense for their success against Monahans.
