Fort Stockton claimed two victories in five outings at the West Texas Shootout – the Panthers annual home tournament – this past week. And Fort Stockton nearly garnered a third victory in their finale of the three-day event.

Fort Stockton born boxer Abel Mendoza improved his undefeated record to 31-0 on Nov. 20 at The Last Stand boxing event at the Inn of the Mountain Gods in Mescalero, New Mexico. Mendoza won the super featherweight bout by way of TKO in round four against former WBC FECOMBOX champion Victor Zaleta. Mendoza now has 23 stoppages by either TKO or KO in his 31 professional fights. Mendoza said he plans to fight again by March at the latest. Photo by Nathan Heuer

Panthers historic season concludes

Significant progress was made from last year’s playoff appearance, but the result proved to be the same. The Fort Stockton football team played in the area round of the playoffs for the second consecutive season on Friday in Lubbock against Dumas – the 4A-1 District 3 champions.
