Blooming the Heirloom Gladiolus Byzantinus Corms

Body
Dear Neil: I’m having trouble with my gladiolus flower stalks flopping over. When the growth gets more than 6 ft. tall the plants often fall. I plant the corms 5 or 6 in. deep, but it seems each year that they rise to ground level and I eventually have to stake them. When I grew glads many years ago the plant height seldom exceeded 3-1/2 ft. I know of no place to purchase the shorter plants. What is going on?
