Second Annual Kids Kows and More

The Pecos County AgriLife Extension/4-H hosted the Second Annual Kids Kows and More program on April 28 at the Pecos County Coliseum. Over 400 students from the Fort Stockton Christian Academy, Apache Elementary, Buena Vista ISD, Grand Falls ISD, and the Fort Stockton Home School Association attended. The Program is designed to educate the youth in agriculture and how it effects our daily lives. Students rotated between various stations every 20 minutes to learn about a new topic. The stations were: mobile dairy, wool, honey bees, livestock, beef cattle, rainfall simulator, snake and predator safety. “I would like to acknowledge some sponsors that helped with the success of the program: Trans Pecos Natural Resource Conservation Service, Pecos Reeves Farm Burrough, Marfa Meats, Mobile Dairy, West of The Pecos Texas Cattle Women Association, Pecos County 4H, Reeves County 4H and Ward County 4H,” said Payton Kiefer, Agricultural & Natural Resources/4-H agent said. FSHS Stem Club finishes strong at state competition

Fort Stockton High School students participated in a state-level competition for TAME, the Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering on April 30.

The students were among the few that qualified through March's divisional competition at Odessa College.

Using the engineering design process, they were tasked with designing and constructing a prototype for an as-yet impossible technology—a space elevator. Saturday consisted of further recognition of their prowess.

Houston recognized for 52-year career at FSISD

Fort Stockton’s longest tenured teacher, Belva Houston, was given a custom made plaque for her 52 years of Service at the Fort Stockton Independent School District at Monday’s annual staff recognition banquet. FSISD host Teachers of the Quarter luncheon

The Fort Stockton Independent School District hosted a luncheon on April 25 at their central office for the 15 educators that earned Teachers of the Quarter recognition during the current school year. The educators were able to eat lunch with the district’s administrative staff as a symbol of appreciate by the district. The following are the teachers that were named Teachers of the Quarter for their respective campuses:

Grey Mule Wine Saloon reopening a success

The Grey Mule Wine Saloon reopened its doors for business on April 21 with a full house of attendees. New owner, Michel Duforat, says the establishment served over 80 people, which exceeded his expectations for a soft opening.

PCCAA annual car show

The PCCAA Head Start held their annual car show at the Zero Stone Park for their students today to celebrate Male Involvement Week. Students took part in a parade, walking from Head Start to the park in their vehicle costumes, before the event. Landree Rivera took first place overall, Mason Franco took second, and Blake Ramey placed third. Each were selected as winners of their respective classrooms. The additional winners of the four remaining classrooms were Khylie Jimenez, Roberto Ramirez, Dean Mata, and Michelle Ortega. Photos by Nathan Heuer

Driver Doug Masters, of Hutto, Texas, won the 100 miles per hour classification at the 24th Annual Big Bend Open on April 23. The following were the Fort Stockton ISD Teachers of the Year that were announced at the district’s banquet Monday at the Special Events Center: Dana Sparks (high school), Jamison Shack (middle school), Luis Payan (intermediate), Belva Houston (Alamo), Savhanna Holland (Apache). Sparks was presented her plaque by assistant superintendent Roy Alvarado. Shack was presented her awarded by assistant superintendent Gil-Rey Madrid. Robotics teams qualify for state

Fort Stockton Middle School will send three Robotics Teams to the state Texas Computer Educators Association Robotics Contest, which will be held at the Hutto High School on Saturday, April 23. The teams earned an invitation to the state contest by taking the top spots at the Area contest in January. The teams are made up of the students pictured here.
