Lions Recycle for Sight

The Fort Stockton Lions Club began collecting eyeglasses at various businesses throughout town this past week for individuals who cannot afford them. The club has set out boxes at the listed locations for eyeglass donations: State Farm, Walmart, Lowe’s, McCoy’s, First National Bank, 1st Community Fed Credit Union, Tractor Supply, West Texas Eye Care, The Glam Station. The glasses will be collected and taken to the eye glass recycling center and given to children and adults who cannot afford them. The local Walmart parking lot is frequented by the common shopper, electric vehicle driver, overnight camper, and of course, the savvy folks who pick up online orders. The Wells family from Wisconsin would be listed among the overnight campers, and have returned to Walmart in their vibrant school bus.

A look at people traveling through Fort Stockton

Downtown Fort Stockton took the form of a walking district Saturday as the farmers market and SpringsFest played out in conjunction. The dual events attracted over 200 people to roam the Rooney Park, Zero Stone Park, and Annie Riggs Museum.

It was not just a regular Wednesday morning for some local second graders a week ago. From learning how to use a washboard to making arrowheads and even discovering which animals are native to West Texas, Fort Stockton ISD students had a full morning of watching history come to life at the Annie Riggs Museum on Texas Independence Day.

There’s a slew of restaurants and attractions that come up when a city name is searched online. Canoeists Mike and Hannah shared that they punched in “restaurants in Fort Stockton” into their search and discovered the Miller Meat Company at 1013 N. Nelson St.

Zip line installed at Rooney Park

Body
Pecos County Precinct No. 2 installed a new zip line as an addition to the existing playground on the southside of Rooney Park last week. Kids are able to ride the zip line by standing on the platforms on either end of the line and sitting on a small seat provided on the equipment. Ministerial Alliance begins Lenten luncheons

The first Ministerial Alliance Lenten Luncheon was held at the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Stockton on March 8. Over 50 people gathered for the event, which featured a meal, gospel music, and a devotional by Rev. Dr. Jim Miles. The second Ministerial Alliance’s Lenten luncheon will be held at the First Baptist Church Tuesday, March 15. The sponsoring churches are First Christian Church and Faith Lutheran Church. The event begins at 11:45 a.m. and includes a meal, music, and a devotional.
