Fort Stockton GED Graduates Recognized at Midland College Graduation

The Fort Stockton GED program is proud to recognize the following students who recently earned their GED and participated in the Midland College Adult Basic Education and Literacy graduation ceremony: Raylene Mata, Selina Vargas, Andres Fierro, Lizette Rodriguez, Geneva Ripley, Briseyra Salas, and Briza Ajanel.

Beauty Lou And The Country Beast Audition

An audition will be held for the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) production of BEAUTY LOU AND THE COUNTRY BEAST Monday, June 22, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Nelson Street Theatre (102 S. Nelson Street). Those auditioning should arrive at 1:15 p.m. and plan to stay for the full two hours. Most of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition.

Unearthing Stories for More Than a Century

When a group of civic-minded women gathered a small collection of books in 1911 and made them available from the home of the Social Improvement Club’s secretary, they likely could not have imagined the lasting impact their efforts would have on Fort Stockton and Pecos County. What began as a modest community library grew in 1928 when the Magno Jusi Study Club raised funds to establish a city library.

Trump administration moves forward with barriers in BBNP

On Tuesday, the Trump Administration and the Department of Homeland Security continued to bypass a multitude of environmental laws to expedite the construction of border barriers and roads through Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park. This move marks a historic move by the federal government in discarding wide-ranging environmental laws that include the National Park Service Organic Act, the Endangered Species Act, and the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act inside a national park.

Every American has a story, and sometimes those stories come together beneath a single flag. In Fort Stockton, that story begins with the veterans of American Legion Post 234, whose commitment to service continues long after their military careers have ended.

Alley Oop, Yates Field, and the Stories That Identify a Community

This past weekend, the community of Iraan-Sheffield gathered to celebrate something far greater than a festival. Through its annual Alley Oop celebration, organized by the Iraan-Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, residents and visitors came together to honor two enduring symbols of local identity: the legendary Alley Oop comic strip and the 100th anniversary of the Yates Oil Field.
