Fort Stockton ISD announced its latest addition to their administrative staff on May 23 at the district’s regular school board meeting. The additions included two new principals, an assistant principal, and a campus curriculum director.

Directors for the 86th Annual Water Carnival were announced May 11 after official contracts were signed for the role. Angela Harral and daughter Kelli Harral Burns will direct this year’s event, which is themed “Port Stockton.”

Midland College held its annual graduation ceremony for students who successfully passed the GED® exam on May 19 and will be receiving their Texas Certificate of high school equivalency. This year there were eight students from the WRTTC branch campus who participated in the ceremony. Cowboys return to Kokernot next week

As the boys of summer roll back into Alpine, the lights will shine extra bright at Kokernot Field this year. The 2022 season marks the 75th anniversary of the o6 Cowboys in Alpine. General Manager Krisitn Cavness said, “This year is very special for not only the team, but also those who love the field and the game. We are really excited about this year’s group of athletes.” The ballpark was built in 1947 by H.L. Kokernot, Jr., as a new home for the baseball team. An estimated 6,000 attended a 1951 exhibition featuring Satchel Paige’s St. Louis Browns versus the Chicago White Sox. The history of the field means a lot to many, as it has seen many games, events, and more.

Comanche Springs Pool opens

The Comanche Springs Pool opened to the public for the first time this year at noon on May 24. The opening was five days earlier than a year ago.
Over 100 people attended the opening of the Comanche Springs Pool this past Tuesday in Fort Stockton. The temperatures peaked in the high 80s and low 90s during the afternoon. The opening of the pool comes before a scorching two-week stretch that is currently projected to have high temperatures of no lower of 90 degrees and six days that reach at least 99. During the 2021 Memorial Day weekend in Texas, there were a total of 360 driving under the influence alcoholrelated traffic crashes, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. Those crashes killed 16 people, and seriously injured 34.

Fort Stockton re-elected school board members took their Oath of Office at Monday’s regular school board meeting on May 23. School board and the bond election votes were officially canvassed at a special meeting last week.
