Fort Stockton ISD to temporarily require masks

The Fort Stockton Independent School District School Board unanimously voted in favor of temporarily requiring mask to be worn on all campuses and transportation for students, teachers, staff, and guests at their emergency meeting on Aug. 25.

The mandate will begin on Thursday, Aug. 26 with no timeframe set on how long the requirement will last.

The Fort Stockton ISD School Board is having an emergency meeting that is open to the public on Wednesday, Aug. 25 to potentially vote on establishing a policy regarding masks, a safe return to school protocol, and on a Novaerus NanoStrike Technology Air Disinfection Devices purchase and deployment.

The meeting will start at 6 p.m. in the board room located at 101 W. Division St.

COVID outbreak forces Iraan-Sheffield ISD closure for 2 weeks

The Iraan-Sheffield Independent School District announced on Monday that the district will be shut down from Aug. 17-29 due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

There will be no virtual learning or activities within the district through the quarantine period that extends through Aug. 29.

Commissioners adopt budget, set tax rate public hearing

The Pecos County Commissioners Court approved the 2022 budget at its Aug. 16 meeting.

The proposed total tax rate is 0.777 per $100 valuation compared to the 2021 rate of 0.7074. The general fund rate is 0.0654; road and bridge is 0.0123; and debt service is 0.00.

Pecos County is anticipating a higher tax rate to bring in approximately the same amount of money last year, due to a decrease in value, according to Pecos County Judge Joe Shuster.
