Storytelling workshop coming up soon

Fort Stockton Community Theatre invites young people 6-18 yearsold to attend a storytelling workshop conducted by Sue Roseberry, president of the Board of Directors for the Midland Storytelling Festival, on Saturday, Sept. 18, from 9:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. at the Nelson Street Theatre. There is a $10 fee for the day’s activities, but if young people would like to participate but cannot afford the fee, scholarships are available. FSCT wants all youth to participate in this event.   • Samuel Jesus Padilla, DOB 11/16/1986 (CR-24456, assault causes bodily injury family violence) defendant has entered into a 12-month pretrial intervention program with a $500 fee and anger management.
  • Christian Jesus Portilla, DOB 06/10/1981 (CR-24309, driving while license invalid) defendant has entered into a six-month pretrial intervention program with a $500 fee.

Two Pecos County residents pass away due to COVID complications

A report on Wednesday evening by Pecos County Emergency Management Coordinator Jessie Dominguez showed that two Pecos County residents passed away from COVID-19 complications in the past four days.

The individuals, who were both unvaccinated, was a 46-year-old female that passed away on Sept. 1 and a 91-year-old female that passed away on Aug. 29.

The two deaths are in addition to a 31-year-old Pecos County resident who passed away on Aug. 19. The individual was also unvaccinated.

FSISD sets 2022 budget and tax rate

The Fort Stockton Independent School District is looking at a total budget of $30.8 million in revenue and a slight decrease in the tax rate.

At its Aug. 30 meeting, the FSISD School Board approved the 2022 budget and tax rate. The total tax rate is $1.1289, which is a 3 cent decrease compared to last year; maintenance and operations has a rate of $0.8792 and debt service is $0.2497.

City council adopts tax rate

The Fort Stockton City Council approved the 2022 tax rate at its special meeting held on Tuesday, Aug. 31.

The proposed total tax rate is 0.4365 per $100 valuation — the same rate as 2021. Debt payments are $0.2419 and the remaining $0.1946 is for operations and maintenance in the general fund.

Principals to decide mask-wearing incentives

Students attending school in Fort Stockton may soon have incentives to take a pledge to wear a mask at their respective campuses. Just over a week ago the Fort Stockton Independent School District School Board decided to move forward with the requirement of masks being worn on all campuses and transportation.

An asynchronous option could become available for Fort Stockton students. The Fort Stockton Independent School District School Board unanimously voted in favor of the district to pursue a partnership with Texas Tech University K-12 to provide a virtual learning option at their Aug.
