On June 21, the West Texas Food Bank sent its “Produce Pod” to Our Lady of Guadalupe Food Bank. The ‘pod’ is a refrigerated trailer that delivers fresh produce, eggs, and dairy goods to food banks in a five-county area to supplement the nutritional needs of food bank clients.

The pod contained 4,700 pounds of fruit, vegetables, eggs, milk, and cheese.

“The pod is a real godsend for our clients, especially considering inflation and gas prices. When people have to make decisions about what they can afford to put on the table, fresh fruit and vegetables are often the first thing people take off the grocery list. It is also a boon for seniors and others with mobility issues,” said Liz Baker, OLOG food bank manager.

The Produce Pod will next return to Our Lady of Guadalupe Food Bank from July 6-7 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The public is encouraged to come out and see the Produce Pod and how the food bank works.

Registration for services will be on Tuesday, July 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. POC is Liz Baker at the OLOG office: 336-5027.
