McCamey man killed in rollover crash

Body

A 34-year-old male was killed in a rollover accident on May 27 on FM 11 in Pecos County at mile marker 258.

Bobby Moss of McCamey was traveling north on FM 11 when he fell asleep at the wheel and overcorrected once the Ford F-150 left the roadway, causing the vehicle to roll according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Moss was not wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday.

First responders to receive more equipment

The Permian Strategic Partnership and the Permian Road Safety Coalition recently announced a $1.1 million donation of life-saving equipment to first responders in 22 counties across West Texas and Southeast New Mexico. The partnership allows the Coalition to expand its First Responder Life-Saving Equipment Initiative that began in early 2020 with its initial investment of over $250,000 in donated equipment. 

Conservation grants awarded in Pecos River watershed

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation on May 19 announced $1.45 million in grants to help restore and sustain healthy rivers, streams, and grassland systems that provide important wildlife habitat in the Pecos Watershed and adjacent areas of New Mexico and Texas.

There's never been a polar bear reported in Fort Stockton, but a large white Samoyed could play tricks on the eyes from a distance. Pulling into Fort Stockton with the distinguishable breed, David Gonzales of San Antonio was more than happy to talk about his fluffy friend.

David Gonzales kept a close eye on his 85-pound companion Blue Boy at the Loves Travel stop on Monday. The fluffy white dog is a breed known as Samoyed.

Pecos County Coliseum to receive first major renovations

A postponed bid acceptance for major renovations to the Pecos County Coliseum from last December was approved at the commissioner’s court regular meeting on May 24. Young Construction & Equipment in Fort Stockton was awarded the bid for the amount of $272,250, which includes three alternate options that were accepted with the bid (exterior paint, stainless steel corner guard, vinyl tile in lieu of stained concrete).

MIDLAND COLLEGE WRTTC PINNING CEREMONY

Midland College WRTTC held a Certified Nurse Assistant and Pharmacy Technician Pinning Ceremony on May 25 at the Fort Stockton Community Theatre. A total of 19 students graduated as either a pharmacy technician or CNA. FSISD leadership stays the same

The Fort Stockton Independent School District had a new board member take an oath of office at their regular meeting on May 24, but the leadership roles on it stayed nearly identical. Fort Stockton native and 2000 Fort Stockton High School graduate Ursula Sanchez will serve her first term on the board after replacing Tom Ezell, who retired following 15 years of service.

New tourism position created by city

Fort Stockton City Council met in regular session on May 25. An agenda item that detailed creation of a director of tourism position for the city prompted many citizens to attend and voice their opinions.
