FSCT prepares for statewide competition

Fort Stockton Community Theatre is preparing for TEXFest state competition held by The Network for Theatre (TNT). TEXFest will be held Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 17-19 at the Cailloux Theatre in Kerrville.

DPS offers safety tips ahead of wintry weather

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is reminding Texans that freezing rain, ice and snow can pose major hazards to drivers and pedestrians and is urging residents to be careful in such conditions.

DPS encourages everyone to take the appropriate safety precautions during wintry weather. This includes checking the battery, windshield wipers, tire pressure, tire treads and fluid levels in their vehicles, as well as ensuring door and trunk locks are properly lubricated to prevent them from freezing.

Isaac Arcides Quintela, of Fort Stockton at 2 p.m., officers from the Department of Public Safety apprehended Quintela and he was charged with evading arrest or detention. Quintela received a $250 PR bond and was released the same day.

Fugitive from Mexico wanted for murder captured

Body

Manuel Adriano-Ruiz was captured by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force after Mexican authorities charged him with the aggravated murder. Adriano-Ruiz, 25, was wanted by Mexico law enforcement authorities in the state of Chihuahua after he was formally charged with aggravated murder of his wife in August 2021.

Low-cost spay, neuter clinic comes to Fort Stockton

A hundred animals were served at the Big Bend Fix 5 — a low-cost spay and neuter clinic held in Fort Stockton last weekend. Pet owners may be hesitant to spend hundreds of dollars on a surgery and to get that number significantly reduced, they would need to drive hours to another clinic.
The TexPet team traveled from Austin to Fort Stockton this past weekend to provide a hundred animals with the necessary spay/ neuter surgery, rabies vaccine and microchip. Courtesy Photo

Substandard property identified as historic Butz home

The City of Fort Stockton Substandard Building Committee met for its regular meeting on Jan. 6. The mission of the committee is to promote the welfare of citizens by securing, repairing, or demolishing structures that are deemed unfit for habitation or hazardous to the public.
