Murr holds meet and greet

District 53 State Representative Andrew Murr held a meet and greet event at the Fort Stockton Convention Center on Feb. 1. The eighth-generation Texan had previously visited Fort Stockton in November and spoke with elected officials and stakeholders in the community. Murr was first elected in 2014 to represent District 53 in the Texas House of Representatives. The district will soon cover Pecos County after redistricting occurred this past year. Search underway for two missing Fort Stockton residents

The National Park Service (NPS), Big Bend National Park and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) El Paso Field Office, Alpine Resident Agency Office, is seeking information from the public about a missing Fort Stockton man and child who were last seen on January 28, 2022.

On Jan. 28, 49-year-old Hector Flores, Jr. and his 9-year-old daughter, Luna Flores traveled from Fort Stockton to Big Bend National Park, in Flores’ blue 2005 Dodge 1500 truck.

DPS arrests 35 in joint human trafficking operations

In January 2022, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Criminal Investigations Division (CID) conducted multiple Adult Prostitution Operations and Online Solicitation of Minor Operations throughout the West Texas Region.

The goal of the operations was to target individuals seeking to exploit and victimize trafficking victims, as well as to identify and apprehend individuals suspected to be involved in human trafficking by using various websites to solicit sexual acts from minors.

City settles freeze utility debt

Nearing the one-year anniversary of last year’s freeze in February, the City of Fort Stockton came to an agreement with West Texas Gas Marketing LLC for a utility rate spike that left the city with a $754,091.30 bill from last year’s catastrophic weather occurrence.

City of Fort Stockton combats multiple water leaks

The City of Fort Stockton’s water and wastewater departments joined forces last Friday as four infrastructure leaks were reported and repaired throughout the day. “We had four water leaks happen within eighteen hours,” said Interim Public Works Director Luis Guerra.

TSUS announces process for appointing interim president of Sul Ross

The Texas State University System Administration has begun the process of identifying potential candidates to serve as interim president of Sul Ross State University upon President Pete Gallego’s departure at the end of the spring semester.

President Gallego previously announced he will leave the university June 4, 2022.

The Pecos-Terrell County U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency announced that Payden Ward of Sheffield and Kati Rogers of Fort Stockton were elected to represent their local administrative areas during the recent county committee election.
