Candidates running for the Fort Stockton ISD school board in the upcoming May election were made official last week. Two of the three wards that are up for vote will have contested races.

Cude, Lujan to have primary election runoff

Two of the three local contested races for this year’s primary election were decided on March 1 and one will be headed to a runoff election in May.

The Democratic candidate race for Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 proved to be the tightest as incumbent Ruben Salinas defeated Oscar Gallegos by six votes (358-352). Salinas trailed 220-216 after early votes were reported.

Raul Sergio Ibarra, of Ozona at 8:09 p.m., officers from the Department of Public Safety apprehended Ibarra and he was charged with driving while intoxicated BAC more than or equal to 0.15. Ibarra received a $2,000 bond and is still in jail.

Panther Pictures to open with “The Batman”

Local election to decide 3 races

Registered voters will have the opportunity to decide three local races for their respective parties in the upcoming primary election on March 1. The Republican ballot for Pecos County District Clerk will be the most contested race on Tuesday as three candidates will vie for the seat.
