County approves Interlocal Agreement with Lubbock

The Pecos Conty Commissioners Court on Nov. 13 voted to enter an interlocal agreement with Lubbock County through the Regional Public Defender for Capital Cases. The Agreement went into effect Oct. 1 and lasts through Sept. 30, 2024, renewing automatically on Oct. 1, 2024, for another oneyear term ending Sept. 30, 2025.

City investing $1 million in Gene Cummings Park improvements

The Economic Development Corporation and City of Fort Stockton have made a commitment to upgrade all city parks, and both have been working on upgrades to Gene Cummings Park for more than a year. Economic Development Director Remie Ramos presented several projects related to the park at the Nov. 13 city council meeting, and the council approved each item.

Fort Stockton Glitz deemed a success

Even though the weather didn’t cooperate much, the 2023 Glitz was a huge success. DJ Latin Stallion provided entertainment for the event, and Remie Ramos and Aspen Walsh were Masters of the Ceremony. Mr. Ramos is the Executive Director of the Fort Stockton Economic Development Corporation, and Ms. Walsh, currently the Miss Sandhills Rodeo Queen, was the first Comanche Springs Rodeo Queen. Despite the weather, the Pecos County Civic Center was near capacity.

Houston man dies in I-10 crash

Rainy conditions and excessive speed were reportedly the cause of a single vehicle crash 15 miles east of Fort Stockton on I-10 around 8 a.m. Thursday. According to the Department of Public Safety, a 2019 Chevrolet Impala driven by Anil Jassani, 23, of Houston, was traveling east on the interstate near Mile Marker 241 when the driver attempted to pass another vehicle at a high rate of speed on the wet roadway in rainy conditions.

Unemployment down in Fort Stockton

The economic outlook is bright for Fort Stockton and Pecos County. Economic Development Director Remie Ramos presented is quarterly report at Monday night’s Fort Stockton city council meeting, and said the unemployment rate dropped from July to September and sales tax collection saw a steady increase, up nearly 18% in 2023 so far compared to the previous year.
