Fumbling through the pages of The Pioneer, a traveling family visiting Fort Stockton was elated to be featured in the very column they were reading and passing around. “We’re headed back to Los Angeles from Louisiana,” said father and husband Ricardo.
Maxi, Echo, Ricardo and Lynn relaxed at the Mesquite Tree coffee shop with their miniature poodle Atticus. The Californian family regarded downtown Fort Stockton as a standout of their visit.

A trailblazer over the course of her career in banking, Lou Ann Tovar decided to call it a career this past week after working 44 years in the banking industry. Tovar wore most hats in the industry during her time as a banker, starting in 1977, three days after she graduated from high school.

Achieving a dream: Olvera opens Eternity Funeral Home

Working hard and giving to others were principles of life that Nancy Olvera learned at a young age. Olvera’s father, who was pastor, taught her those principles during her childhood in Presidio and Olvera carried out those values throughout her life.

After five breakdowns on their 1997 RV, George and Patricia of Florida pulled into Fort Stockton with big smiles and an abundance of roadside stories. “Originally we’re both Oregonians,” said George from the driver side of a minivan.
George and Patricia pulled into Fort Stockton after facing a handful of RV issues out on the road. However, the married ministers have a tendency to find the good in every bad situation.

111 YEARS OF RANCHING

The Hayter family celebrated the 111th anniversary of ranching at the Hayter Ranch on June 19, located 40 miles west of Fort Stockton in Pecos County. The Hayter Ranch has continued agricultural production by the same family for the last 111 years. The ranch was founded in 1910 by Robert Pippen “Bob” Hayter and Robert Hounshell “Jack” Hayter. Also pictured is Nancy and Bob Hayter, who operate thousands of acres of land on the ranch, a sign located on the outskirts of the ranch, and the Hayter family who gathered for Saturday’s celebration. Outstanding Teacher and Student Awards

Fort Stockton High School teacher Robert Inlow and high school students Katie Villarreall, and Colton King were recognized as the instructor and students of the fith, sixth six weeks by the Fort Stockton Rotary Club a week ago. Inlow is originally from Dallas and has degrees from Baylor University (Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications) and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (a Master of Divinity). Colton King was recognized as student for the fifth six weeks, and Katie Villarreal was recognized as the student for the sixth six weeks. Both students are interested in attending Texas Tech, and Colton already has a degree from Midland College as an energy technician.
