The 2022 Independence Day Parade on July 4 in Fort Stockton was met with heavy rains as it finished its final stretch on Main Street. Fort Stockton’s annual Independence Day firework show at Rooney Park on July 4 proved to be amongst the best in West Texas once again this year. Toastmasters in Fort Stockton met on May 20 at the Fort Stockton Public Library for one of their bi-monthly meetings. The group’s president, Karan Heffelfinger presented the awards at the meeting. Houston Mckenzie, bottom photo, was recognized as the Best Speaker. The Best Table Topics Speaker was visitor Lance Smith, top photo. Alicia Salinas (not pictured) was awarded the Best Evaluator. Toastmasters meet twice a month on the second and fourth Fridays at noon for one hour, at the public library. Lunch is provided. The group invites the community to attend. 4-H state food challenge qualifiers recognized

Three Pecos County 4-H students were recognized for their state-qualifying achievement at the Pecos
County Commissioner Court regular meeting on June 27.

Mikki Mandujano, James Garrison, and Bryon Garrison were the state qualifiers.

The students qualified for state by showing exemplary knowledge of nutrition and the ability to put together a meal without instruction in a 40-minute span.

Heritage Funeral Home and Fort Stockton Insurance showed their appreciation for the Certified Nursing Assistants at Focused Care in Fort Stockton by adopting/sponsoring the CNAs at the facility. CNA week began in 1977. CNA week, also known as the National Nursing Assistants Week, is celebrated every year on the second whole week of June, starting on a Thursday. This year’s 45 Annual National Nursing Assistants Week was celebrated from June 16-22. CNA week is a special time to thank CNAs for their hard work and effort in the medical field. BE COOL/STAY COOL SUMMER THEATRE CAMP

The Paisano Players who have been involved in the third annual Be Cool/Stay Cool Summer Theatre Camp invite family and friends to attend their free performance of «The Wicked Witch of the Wild West,” written by Faye Couch Reeves, on Friday, June 24, at 5:15 p.m. at the Nelson Street Theatre, 102 S. Nelson St. in Fort Stockton. The production is by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service. The performance will be the culmination of the students work during the Summer Theatre Camp, directed by Emma Morales with assistance from Alice Duerksen and Ruben Gonzales. Seventeen students attended the camp, and are excited to show the results of their two weeks of hard work. Come and enjoy this version of “The Wizard of Oz.” Pictured are students, who will be performing the “The Wicked With of the Wild West,” during their practice on June 20.

Local pharmacist calls it a career after 30 years of ownership

Coming from a family of pharmacists, longtime Fort Stockton resident Mario Juarez knew the career path he wanted to go down since he was a teenager.

The El Paso native began his career in pharmacy as a clerk at the age of 16. Juarez received his degree in pharmacy from the University of Texas in 1984 and eight years later he began to live out his dream.
