Sul Ross State Battles Eagles

ALPINE — The Sul Ross State University baseball team (3-45 Lone Star Conference, 4-46) lost 17-3 to Oklahoma Christian (13-35 LSC, 14-36), Sunday at Kokernot Field. The Eagles scored eight runs over the first four innings to effectively sealed the game. For Sul Ross State, senior Estevan Ortiz and junior Chris Ulloa had two hits each. Junior Noah Tofan (1-4) gave up eight hits, eight runs with seven earned, walked four and struck out one in 3.3 innings. Sul Ross State has finished the 2025 season.

Panther Tennis Earns Regional Berths After Strong District Showing

MIDLAND — The Fort Stockton Panther Tennis Team delivered a remarkable performance at the District 3-4A Tournament held in Midland on Monday and Thursday, April 21 and 24. With grit, determination, and plenty of Panther pride, the team battled through tough draws and emerged with several standout finishes — including three athletes punching their tickets to the upcoming Regional Tournament in Lubbock.

Four-time National Amateur Champ’s Debut

This past weekend Joshua Franco, great nephew of Rudy and Sophia Franco, made his hometown pro debut. Josh, who is a four-time national amateur champion, fought his second pro fight at the Ector County coliseum Saturday night.

The Fort Stockton High School softball and baseball teams closed out their district schedules this past week with emotional and hard-fought matchups on Senior Night. With playoff hopes on the line for baseball and a dramatic finish for softball, both programs gave their fans plenty to cheer for at home.
