Pool Hall Restoration

The Comanche Pool Hall is currently receiving renovations, which is being done by Sandro Canovas and his crew. The adobe building will be receiving new bricks, which started to be built this week. Canovas stated the brick are made from an array of materials including cactus juice and manure. See story in next week’s paper. Photo by Jeremy Gonzalez.

Julissa Talavera Duarte, left, was awarded $60,550 dollars in scholarships during the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce scholarship ceremony on June 9 at the Fort Stockton Community Theatre. A total of $50,000 came from the James I Trott Scholarship. Talavera Duarte plans to attend Angelo State University in the fall and major in English. Her goal is to become a teacher. Sul Ross State University’s Theatre Program brings live performance back to the Big Bend with Failure: A Love Story by Philip Dawkins. Step into 1928 Chicago and follow the loves and losses of the Fail family in this funny and quirky musicfilled tale.

Nineteen Fort Stockton High School graduates received scholarships from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce on June 9 at Fort Stockton Community Theatre by way of numerous sponsors who made the scholarships possible. Also pictured along with the recipients is representatives of companies and individuals who sponsored student scholarships. A grand total of $308,825 was awarded to the 2020 graduates for college. Local sales tax trending up, according to EDC

The local economy is trending upward according to June’s sales tax report that was released by the Fort Stockton EDC. The report represents spending that was done by consumers in Fort Stockton in the month of April and compared to last April, there was an increase of $18,000 is sales tax – a 4.88% increase from 2020 numbers.
The sales tax information above represents sales tax spending in the month of April by consumers and the year-to-date spending compared to last year at this time.
