The Davis Mountains State Park located just north of Fort Davis offers weekly programs, hikes, and adventures to park visitors. If hikes are not your thing, the park offers slide shows and presentations such as Rock Stars of the Davis Mountains State Park which was held this past Sunday.

The summer reading program will be opened on May 20, the theme this year is “Adventures Begin at Your Library”. The kickoff program will be held June 6 at 10 a.m. with the illusionist “Artist of the Impossible”. Children will receive a welcome packet and incentives during the program. Each child who completes the program will be eligible to attend the movie “Migration” at the movie theatre. The program is available to all children in Pecos County at no cost. Please come to the library to register and obtain details.

Fort Stockton set to honor our heroes

Fort Stockton residents will join the rest of our Nation in honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country during times of conflict. Fort Stockton’s annual Memorial Day Service held this year on May 27 features the presentation of colors by American Legion Post 234, as well as a wreath-laying ceremonyforthosewhodiedinvarious conflicts while serving our great nation, and for those law enforcement and first responders who died in the line of duty. There will also be patriotic music and proclamations read by community leaders. As with tradition, the names of the fallen will be read also. The public is encouraged to call Pecos County Veterans Service Officer Michael Corkrum at 432-290-2764 to add the name of a loved one to the list. The Memorial Day service will begin at 10 a.m. at Zero Stone Park, located south of the Pecos County Courthouse.
