Election Day is May 4

May 4 is general election day in Pecos County, depending on what precinct or ward you fall under, you still have time to vote. On the ballot this election cycle are two Fort Stockton Independent School District Board of Trustee seats, two Pecos County Hospital District seats, two Pecos County Water Improvement District seats, and the Red Bluff Water Control Power District.

Groundwater District denies petition

The Middle Pecos Groundwater Conservation District (MPCGD) board met for their regular meeting on April 16 at 10 a.m. The quorum was met with only one board member absent, Mr. Larry Drgac. Present were Jerry McGuairt (President representing Precinct 1), Janet Growth (Vice President representing Precinct 1), M.R. Gonzalez (Secretary/ Treasurer, representing Precinct 2), Puja Boinpally (Director representing Precinct 2), Weldon Blackwelder (Director, representing Precinct 3), Alvaro Mandujano, Jr. (Director, representing Precinct 4), Ronald Cooper (Director, representing Precinct 4), Vanessa Cardwell (Director, representing Fort Stockton), Jeff Sims (Director, representing Iraan) and Alan Childs (Director, at large). There were multiple attendees connected via Zoom call.

Pecos County Attorney hosts victim training

Pecos County Attorney Frank Lacy hosted a multiagency victim’s services training on Tuesday, April 9 at the Fort Stockton Convention Center. On hand for the training were guest speakers Bronwyn Blake and Gregory Barber.

Mariachi Coro de Colores

The Mariachi Coro de Colores performed their mariachi mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on April 14 to a standing room only crowd. In 1966, Sister Francis Jean Terrazas of the Missionary Catechists of Divine Providence heard a mariachi mass for the first time in Cuernavaca, Mexico.

School Board discusses four-day school week

The regular meeting of the Fort Stockton Independent School Board was held on April 22 in the district board room. All board members were present except Vice President Ignacia “Nacho” Dominguez. After pledges and invocation, the board recognized April students of the month.
