Fiddler’s Green-Soap Suds Row

Body
When I was researching the history of Fort Lancaster (1855-1861) for Texas Parks & Wildlife, one of the original sources was the inspection of the post in 1860 by Joesph Mansfield, the Inspector General of the Army. The report included an excellent map. Fort Lancaster was one of the most isolated posts in Texas, and no civilian settlement existed. It was located on the Overland Trail between San Antonio and El Paso and built close to good water sources, Live Oak Creek and the Pecos River.

Gateway into 4-H

Body
For the first time in approximately three years, the 4-H extension office is asking young participants if rabbits might be the right avenue for them. Elaine Haby, Ag and natural resource extension agent for Pecos County, shared in an interview with the Pioneer that rabbits offer a very flexible alternative for kids who are looking to be a part of the livestock world, but are limited by space, funds, or certainty.
