On Tuesday, The Pecos League announced that Fort Stockton is to see the return of the historic Cantaloupe Classic Showdown and invites all baseball fans. “The Pecos League proudly announces the highly anticipated Cantaloupe Classic featuring the Alpine Cowboys against the Pecos Bills,” the league shared in a press release.

Chamber of Commerce boost community events

The ambassadors for the Fort Stockton Chamber of Commerce met last week for their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 11. Most recently, the chamber, along with the sponsorship from Big Bend Telephone, kicked off the free live music concert series at Zero Stone Park.

Merritt finds rewards in rodeo

New Safety Rest Areas Open in Van Horn

LAUREN MACIAS El Paso – Two new safety rest areas in Culberson County will open to the public on Saturday, June 1. The facilities, located on I-10 both east and west, are nine miles from Van Horn and will replace current rest area locations four miles outside of Van Horn.

June opens auditions and rehearsals for Treasure Island production

This summer, Treasure Island is coming to Fort Stockton. The Fort Stockton Community Theatre has announced that the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) will be coming to town for the last week of June to hold auditions and rehearsals through the week for the musical production of Robert Louis Stevenson’s ageless classic.

Free Concert Series at Zero Stone

The Fort Stockton Chamber of Commerce has organized a summer of live music for the community at Zero Stone Park, free to visitors due to the sponsorship of Big Bend Telephone. The March Divide, led by Dallas/ Fort Worth-based musician Jared Putnam, was the first concert to delight visitors on June 7.

LIBRARY HAPPENINGS

The summer reading program opened on May 20, the theme this year is “Adventures Begin at Your Library”. The program kicked off on June 6 with the illusionist “Artist of the Impossible”. Children will receive a welcome packet and incentives during the program. Each child who completes the program will be eligible to attend the movie “Migration” at the movie theatre. The program is available to all children in Pecos County at no cost. Please come to the library to register and obtain details.
