Villarreal earns Academic All-Conference Honors

June proved to be quite the month for Fort Stockton native Mary Villarreal. Just eight days after being hired by the Fort Stockton ISD as a middle school teacher and coach, Villarreal was named to the American Southwest Conference 2020-21 Academic All-Conference list for her performance in the classroom and on the softball field for the Sul Ross State University.

Franco returns to ring

Odessa Boxing’s Club Joshua Franco, the great nephew of Fort Stockton’s Sophia and Rudy Franco, returned to the ring this past weekend at the 2021 July Bash this past weekend. Joshua Joshua was back in the ring after being out for 3 months due to a broken nose he suffered while sparring.

Fort Stockton athletes take part in Prowlers softball camp

Fort Stockton new head softball coach Darrian Roberson and her assistants hosted the Prowlers softball camp on Tuesday on the Prowlers home field. The softball camp began on Tuesday and will run through Friday. Third through fifth grade student-athletes participate in morning sessions while sixth through ninth grade students take part in the camp in afternoon sessions. The softball camp is one of the final camps that will be hosted at the high school. Camps yet to take place is the golf camp (July 12-14) and the Panther football camp (Aug. 2-4). Oscar Ray Jimenez named Athletics Business Coordinator

Sul Ross Athletics has hired Oscar Ray Jimenez as its Athletics Business Coordinator.

He will join the staff on July 6.

"I am very excited to begin this opportunity since I see this as a great fit for me," said Jimenez. "It's a great way to excel in my career being a business professional in higher education."

Villarreal returns as Fort Stockton coach, teacher

Seeing Mary Villarreal lead the Fort Stockton softball team deep into the playoffs may have seemed like not long ago for some.

Just over three years ago she graduated from Fort Stockton High School with a softball scholarship in hand from Sul Ross State University and nearly all her general education courses complete by way of Midland College/WRTTC dual credit program.

The 50/70 All-Star baseball team capped a dominant month of June with a sectional title victory against Floyd Gwin on June 28 after playing over the course of the four previous days. The little league team won the District 37 Tournament in Fort Stockton on June 14-15. The team’s next tournament will be in Abilene from July 9-12. Little Leaguers headed to Lubbock

The Fort Stockton Majors Allstar Team will be playing in the 12 and under Section 1 tournament on July 2. The little league baseball team (ages 10-12) will travel to Lubbock for the competition. The players were each given special rings to celebrate the achievement, the rings were donated by parents who would like to remain anonymous. Fort Stockton High School volleyball camp

Fort Stockton High School hosted their annual volleyball camp on June 29 for third through ninth grade students. Prowlers first-year head coach Gabrielle Marquez ran the camp while her assistants and high school athletes aided in instruction. Third through sixth grade students participated in a two-hour morning session, which was followed by a two-hour session for seventh through ninth grade students from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The camp started on Monday and ends on Thursday. The Fort Stockton Allstar 50/70 baseball team was escorted into Fort Stockton by the Fort Stockton Police Department and the Fort Stockton Fire Department on June 29. The caravan of vehicles came into town on Monahans Highway and turned west on Dickinson Blvd. before ending at Rio Street. Robersons join coaching staffs

The Fort Stockton softball team will have a familiar face at the helm when the season begins next spring. Darrian Roberson, an assistant softball coach at Fort Stockton three years ago, is now officially head coach of the Prowlers softball team after her teaching and coaching contract were approved at a special school board meeting on June 21.
Darrian Roberson and Zack Roberson will join Fort Stockton ISD as teachers and coaches this upcoming school year. The couple, who married earlier this month, will coach a combined five sports.
