Late rally propels Prowlers past Riverside in 4A playoffs

Determination and positivity – the mentalities were exemplified all season by the Prowlers softball team and were consistent parts of the team’s path from a program who won a few games a season ago to a postseason appearance in 2022.

The program turnaround under first-year head coach Darrian Roberson came full circle on April 30 against Riverside in their 4A Bi-District playoff matchup in Van Horn.

Buena Vista qualifies 3 for state track meet

Buena Vista returning state track and field medalists Mariana Sanchez and Cole Brauchi will have an opportunity to put an exclamation point on the end of their high school careers as Longhorns in Class 1A at the UIL State Track & Field Championships on May 14.

Fort Stockton track shows potential at 4A Region I meet

A number of Panther and Prowler athletes put forth their best performances of the season at the 4A Region I Track and Field meet at Lowrey Field in Lubbock to conclude their 2022 campaign last weekend.

Fort Stockton finished the two-day event on April 29-30 with no state qualifiers but showed the future of the program has plenty of promise in the years ahead.

Prowlers rout Riverside in playoff opener

Fort Stockton’s postseason debut couldn’t have gone much better for the Prowlers on Friday in Van Horn against District 1-4A co-district champion Riverside.

Senior Alyana Dominguez had her most productive game of the season at the plate for Fort Stockton, hitting two home runs and tallying six RBIs to lead her team to a 15-3 run-rule victory in five innings.

Panthers track team etch name in record books

With the first Area championship in school history on the line, the Fort Stockton boys 1,600-meter relay team rose to the challenge. The Panthers entered the final event of their respective area meet in Andrews on April 21 in third place behind the Mustangs and Riverside by less than four points each.

Velasquez’s grand slam ignites rally

Two weeks ago, the Fort Stockton baseball team was tied for fifth place in District 2-4A with a 2-5 district record and were needing to win at least two of their final three games to qualify for the postseason.

Prowlers red hot heading into postseason

Fort Stockton is showing signs that they are performing at their best at a time when it matters the most. The Prowlers softball team will enter their bi-district playoff series with Riverside starting on Friday, April 29 on a three-game win streak after defeating Alpine in an away playoff warmup game on April 25.

Tennis duo season concludes

Athena Gomez and Jaslyn Pacheco advancement to the Class 4A regional tennis tournament was a feat that hadn’t accomplished since the 2018 season by a Fort Stockton girls doubles team. After placing second at the Prowlers’ district meet on April 2, the duo continued their momentum in the first round at Fort Stockton’s regional tennis meet in Lubbock on April 14.

Prowlers advance 9 athletes to area meet

Peaking at the right time came to fruition for the Prowlers track and field team last week at the District 2-4A meet in Andrews.

The Fort Stockton girls had nine athletes qualify for the area meet via top-four finishes. Two individuals and a relay team had personal-best times or marks in hand by the end of the event.

Sophomore Ali Jackson earned three gold medals and clocked two personal records to cap the best day of her young track career.
