Second quarter woes extend Panthers district losing streak

Three quarters were competitive during Friday’s game between the Panthers and rival Mustangs at the Special Events Center.

The one that wasn’t proved to be insurmountable in Fort Stockton’s bid for their first district win.

Andrews outscored Fort Stockton 18-5 in the second quarter and made nine 3-pointers during the contest in their 65-50 win over the Panthers.

Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick announced Senate committee assignments for the 88th Texas Legislature on Jan. 23.

Senator César J. Blanco (SD-29) was appointed to five key Senate committees — The Senate Committees on Health & Human Services; Natural Resources & Economic Development; Water, Agriculture, & Rural Affairs; Veteran Affairs; and Border Security.

For the Texas House and Senate, there is not much daylight between each chamber’s priorities in this year’s legislative session. Leaders say the focus will be on property tax relief, border security and employee raises. Preliminary budgets from both chambers were released last week, the Austin American-Statesman reported, with a record $288.7 billion budget for the next two years. The money in the budget is made up of $93.7 billion in federal funds, $130.1 billion in state general revenue funds, and $64.9 billion in other funds.

Playoff push: Prowlers hold off Mustangs

Body

Winning Friday’s outing against Andrews was a must for the Prowlers to keep control of their playoff destiny heading into the second slate of district games.

Fort Stockton was on their way to accomplishing that task with relative ease, leading the Mustangs 20-7 with four minutes left in the third quarter.
