Conservation grants awarded in Pecos River watershed

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation on May 19 announced $1.45 million in grants to help restore and sustain healthy rivers, streams, and grassland systems that provide important wildlife habitat in the Pecos Watershed and adjacent areas of New Mexico and Texas.

There's never been a polar bear reported in Fort Stockton, but a large white Samoyed could play tricks on the eyes from a distance. Pulling into Fort Stockton with the distinguishable breed, David Gonzales of San Antonio was more than happy to talk about his fluffy friend.

David Gonzales kept a close eye on his 85-pound companion Blue Boy at the Loves Travel stop on Monday. The fluffy white dog is a breed known as Samoyed.

The Pecos County Commissioners made the counties 150th Anniversary Celebration on July 3 official at their regular meeting on May 10. The commissioners approved contracts for three bands to play at the outdoor pavilion in Rooney Park on the evening of July 3.

FSISD, public school districts in Texas will stop requiring masks starting June 4

Starting in just over two weeks, the Fort Stockton Independent School District and public school across the state of Texas will no longer be able to require masks in their facilities. Governor Greg Abbott singed an executive order on May 18 that bans government entities in Texas from requiring masks and public schools from requiring mask mandates on their campuses.
