Texas has passed a bill to protect Laughlin AFB, ERCOT, and National Security

Texas Senate Bill 2116, now known as the Lone Star Infrastructure Protection Act, passed unanimously through the Texas House and Senate, was signed into law by Governor Abbott on June 5 and is effective immediately. The law prohibits companies from China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran from investing in projects connected to Texas's critical infrastructure, including the electrical grid.

On June 15, 2021, Senobio Ortiz Aranda, “a man of determination,” left us to rest in peace. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandpa.

He was born in Mexico. He was determined to reach his goals in life. He became a U.S. citizen as soon as possible. He came to be a hard worker as a cowboy. Later in life he was determined to be a good welder and a mentor to those who also wanted to be good welders. Those who worked with him called him “Sonny.” He was always a good provider for the family.

Our beloved Anna Baeza Garcia went to be with the Lord on June 16, 2021. She was born in Hacienda, Texas, in Presidio County to Arcadio and Concepcion Baeza on July 28, 1921.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband Gustavo Garcia, Jr.; sons Osvaldo and Osmin Garcia; and grandson Tommy Breitling.

Local sales tax trending up, according to EDC

The local economy is trending upward according to June’s sales tax report that was released by the Fort Stockton EDC. The report represents spending that was done by consumers in Fort Stockton in the month of April and compared to last April, there was an increase of $18,000 is sales tax – a 4.88% increase from 2020 numbers.
The sales tax information above represents sales tax spending in the month of April by consumers and the year-to-date spending compared to last year at this time.
