The Pecos County Commissioners Court is set to vote on the 2022 budget and tax rate next month.

The estimated total tax rate, according to the budget summary, is 0.755 per $100 valuation compared to this year’s rate of 0.07074.

Estimated balances for Dec. 31, 2022 are $20,020,649.84 for the general fund, $832,753.89 for R&B maintenance and $7,114,885 for other funds. This is a total balance of $27,968,288.73, which is $2,276,487.93 more than this year.

Becoming a world champion boxer has long been in the sights of Fort Stockton born boxer Abel Mendoza.

The longtime Pecos resident, who is currently training out of Odessa and Midland, started his boxing career at 8-years-old.

Roy Dee Armstrong, age 87, of Fort Stockton, Texas, died Tuesday, July 13, 2021, following a lengthy illness. He passed away in the loving arms of his wife Althea (Ali) Lannom Armstrong at his home in Fort Stockton. 

Roy was born on December 31, 1933, in Crosbyton to Ida Roswell Armstrong and Roy Dee Armstrong.  He was married to Dorothy Armstrong for 58 years until her death in 2014. They had no children. 

Ramon P. “Monchie” Garcia left us to be in the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 21, 2021, at the age of 89. He was born on Sept. 24, 1931, in Ft Stockton to Feliciano Nunez Garcia and Eglentina Pacheco.

Ramon attended Ft Stockton schools and was a life-long Ft Stockton resident.

In April 1951 Ramon enlisted in the US Army and served until April 1953 after which he served in the reserve for two more years.
