Miller announces challenge for Texas nutrition programs

On April 5, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller announced April 12 will kick off the 2021 Texas Department of Agriculture Spring Farm Fresh Challenge. Schools, childcare providers, and adult care centers across Texas will celebrate Texas agriculture April 12-May 14. TDA will recognize these nutrition program partners for serving Texas grown foods, teaching Texans about agriculture, and sharing their celebrations on social media.

Aviation crews are prepositioned for wildfire response

Texas A&M Forest Service has opened a single engine air tanker base in Alpine to assist with wildfire response across the state. Persistent drought, cured grasses, above normal temperatures, and elevated-to-critical fire weather will produce conditions conducive to increased fire activity from the Big Bend to the Midland/Odessa area.

Election set for May 1

The election for the Fort Stockton mayor seat and two Fort Stockton City Council seats will take place on May 1 at the Pecos County Court House Annex Room from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Family members of longtime Fort Stockton resident, Maria Dominga Galindo, held a birthday celebration for her 102nd birthday on April 3 at her residence in Fort Stockton. Approximately 80 family members and friends helped celebrate her birthday with her on Saturday. Galindo’s birthday is officially on April 13. The resident of Fort Stockton has lived in the community since 1985. Galindo was married to her husband, Ramon, for 66 years before he passed away in 2007. The couple had 16 children. Superintendent candidates narrowed to six

The Fort Stockton Independent School District’s search for a new superintendent took an important step forward on Tuesday as a list of 45 candidates was reduced to six after a unanimous vote by the school board at the group’s special meeting.

FSISD hired a search firm – the Texas Association of School Boards – to aid in the hiring process and to help ensure the district selects the best candidate.

It’s not every day you see an artist standing in the grass painting a giant roadrunner, but that’s exactly what happened here in Fort Stockton on March 22. Soaking up the sun, painter Shea Daniel-Youngblood spent a few hours painting Paisano Pete outside the Chamber of Commerce Visitor’s Center.

Dignity Health Mercy Medical Group recently appointed Peter Valenzuela, MD, MBA, as Chief Medical Officer. As CMO, Valenzuela will oversee all aspects of clinical care delivery for the Medical Group, and provide strategic leadership to provide high-quality, patient-centric care in the Sacramento, Calif., region. This includes the performance, recruitment, engagement, and wellness of the 480 primary and specialty care clinicians with Dignity Health Mercy Medical Group. He will be responsible for patient safety, satisfaction and overall quality of clinical care.
