COVID numbers stabilize in county

In the past two weeks, the number of confirmed active COVID-19 cases in Pecos County has maintained at 35 people or below.

The most recent data reported on Oct. 26 showed that there were 24 active cases and two additional COVID related fatalities in the past 14 days.

A 38-year-old male, who tested positive for the virus on Sept. 28, passed away at a San Angelo medical facility on Oct. 16. A 64-year-old male, who tested positive for the virus on Sept. 26, passed away at an El Paso medical facility on Oct. 17.

The two deaths move the COVID-19 death toll in the county to 46 since the pandemic began in March of 2020.

Since July 28, there has been 330 vaccineeligible people test positive for COVID-19. Of those 330 individuals, 268 were not vaccinated (81%).

Booster shot receptients nearly double

The number of individuals that have received a COVID-19 booster shot (third dose) has jumped from 412 people on Oct. 13 to 812 on Oct. 26. The 812 booster shots given out to county residents increases the percent of vaccine-eligible residents who have received a booster shot to 6.21%.

There has been 100 people who have received their first dose in the past two weeks and 212 people who became fully vaccinated by receiving their second dose. With the additional vaccinations, 73.8% of vaccine-eligible residents in the county have received at least one dose of the vaccine and 64.4% are fully vaccinated.
