Texas lawmakers made a strong financial commitment to Sul Ross State University in the 2022-2023 state budget, reflecting their ongoing support for the university under the leadership of President Pete Gallego.

Summer Off The Patio is back

Last Thursday marked the longawaited return of the Summer Off the Patio concert series, traditionally hosted at the Annie Riggs Memorial Museum. After being canceled during the pandemic, the series started off big with musician Jerry Serrano, and was sponsored by the Fort Stockton Historical Society.

Celebrating 30 years

Reyes Lopez was awarded a framed letter and pin congratulating him and thanking him for his 30 years of service with the Postal Service in Fort Stockton on May 18. This past month represented his 30 years of service. The letter from Steven Hernandez stated, “The Postal Service owes a great deal to the loyalty and dedication of its employees and I am happy to commend you for your many contributions throughout the years toward improved Postal Service operations. Local student makes Dean’s List

A total of eight students who went to high school in Pecos County achieved the Dean’s List designation at Angelo State University for this past spring semester. To be eligible for the ASU Dean’s List, fulltime undergraduate students must maintain a 3.25 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Mesa Solutions Donates To CASA

JC Ortiz and Matthew Galindo of Mesa Solutions presented a donation check of $2,000 to Frontier CASA in Fort Stockton on June 3. Ortiz, Galindo, and Mesa Solutions employees raised the money by volunteering for a variety activities and public services. The Fort Stockton office employees were able to decide what activities they volunteered, which included picking up trash on Highway 285, cleaning up after baseball games, coaching, helping out with the road race and more services to help out the community. New sign installed at PCWID No. 1

The Pecos County Water Control and Improvement District #1 in Fort Stockton put up a new sign this past week to make the water district easier to find. The office also installed a flagpole that has both the American flag and Texas flag, which will soon be joined by the water district’s flag.

Tourism numbers trending upwards

The Fort Stockton City Council met in regular session on June 8, with Mayor Pro-Tem Paul Casillas leading the meeting. The council heard presentations from the Pecos County Appraisal District, the Police Department, and others.
