Sul Ross State University’s Theatre Program brings live performance back to the Big Bend with Failure: A Love Story by Philip Dawkins. Step into 1928 Chicago and follow the loves and losses of the Fail family in this funny and quirky musicfilled tale.

Nineteen Fort Stockton High School graduates received scholarships from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce on June 9 at Fort Stockton Community Theatre by way of numerous sponsors who made the scholarships possible. Also pictured along with the recipients is representatives of companies and individuals who sponsored student scholarships. A grand total of $308,825 was awarded to the 2020 graduates for college. Local sales tax trending up, according to EDC

The local economy is trending upward according to June’s sales tax report that was released by the Fort Stockton EDC. The report represents spending that was done by consumers in Fort Stockton in the month of April and compared to last April, there was an increase of $18,000 is sales tax – a 4.88% increase from 2020 numbers.
The sales tax information above represents sales tax spending in the month of April by consumers and the year-to-date spending compared to last year at this time.

Texas lawmakers made a strong financial commitment to Sul Ross State University in the 2022-2023 state budget, reflecting their ongoing support for the university under the leadership of President Pete Gallego.

Summer Off The Patio is back

Last Thursday marked the longawaited return of the Summer Off the Patio concert series, traditionally hosted at the Annie Riggs Memorial Museum. After being canceled during the pandemic, the series started off big with musician Jerry Serrano, and was sponsored by the Fort Stockton Historical Society.

Celebrating 30 years

Reyes Lopez was awarded a framed letter and pin congratulating him and thanking him for his 30 years of service with the Postal Service in Fort Stockton on May 18. This past month represented his 30 years of service. The letter from Steven Hernandez stated, “The Postal Service owes a great deal to the loyalty and dedication of its employees and I am happy to commend you for your many contributions throughout the years toward improved Postal Service operations. I wish to extend my warm personal greetings and the hope that you will accept this pin as a symbol of my deep appreciation for a career of commendable service.” Courtesy Photo

Local student makes Dean’s List

A total of eight students who went to high school in Pecos County achieved the Dean’s List designation at Angelo State University for this past spring semester. To be eligible for the ASU Dean’s List, fulltime undergraduate students must maintain a 3.25 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
