Fort Stockton drug bust leads to seizure of cocaine, steroids

A narcotics investigation that took place over 18 months led to arrest of a Fort Stockton resident on Aug. 11 and the seizure of over 300 grams of illegal drugs.

The Pecos County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of United States Marshal’s Service and the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division Special Agents, effected multiple first degree felony warrants for manufacture or delivery of cocaine on Omar Serna, 40.

Education highlights at Barrio Fest 2022

Fort Stockton Community Theatre’s Barrio Fest - A Celebration of the Hispanic Culture in Fort Stockton - will provide third-graders with a morning of educational experiences on Friday, Sept. 16, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the FMH Meeting Hall, the Nelson Street Theatre, and other learning sites in the theatre’s neighborhood. The Barrio Fest weekend will provide cultural, historical, and educational activities so people will become aware of the then-and-now of the Hispanic Culture, and the impact the Hispanic community has made in all facets of economic and social development.

Recreation center project put on hold

A new recreation center project in Fort Stockton is being put on hold for the foreseeable future following a discussion that was held at the Intergovernmental Recreation Board meeting in Fort Stockton late last month.

Iraan-Sheffield, Buena Vista school districts add school resource officers

For the first time in their school district’s history, Iraan-Sheffield ISD and Buena Vista ISD will have school resource officers stationed at their campus during the school year.

The Pecos County Commissioners Court approved the SRO agreement at their regular meeting on Aug. 8 following unanimous approval by both school boards last month.

Lira visits Pecos County, Pioneer

Democrat John Lira, candidate for Texas House Representatives District 23, visited Pecos County and the Fort Stockton Pioneer on July 29 as a part of his ‘Boots on the Ground Tour’ that features stops in all 29 counties that make up the district. Lira spoke on his desire to update asylum laws to improve the immigration process, implementing enhanced background checks/license as a requirement to acquire semi-automatic weapons, and his support for the oil industry. Oscar Olivarez, of Mathis, Texas at 12:13 a.m., officers from the Department of Public Safety apprehended Olivares on a warrant (San Patricio County) for indecency with child sexual contact. Olivarez received a $50,000 bond and was sent to San Patricio County.
