Fort Stockton ISD to have two-hour late start on Thursday

The Fort Stockton ISD will have a two-hour late start tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 2. Starts times at each campus and transportation times will be pushed back two hours.

Please note students may be dropped off for breakfast 30 minutes prior. Administrators plan to monitor as cafeterias will have breakfast ready by 8:30 a.m.

Tomorrow is back to normal attendance for students.

Fort Stockton ISD scheduled to have 1-hour late start on Wednesday

The Fort Stockton ISD will have a 1-hour delay to start times tomorrow.

Start times at each campus will be pushed back one hour and bus pick up times will be moved back an hour unless weather dictates otherwise according to FSISD Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Zamora.

Forecasts will continue to be monitored and the transportation team at Fort Stockton ISD will evaluate roads in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Feb. 1 to determine if further action is necessary.

TxDOT reports 55 accidents as winter weather conditions worsen

The Texas Department of Public Safety’s Midland District reported a total of 55 traffic crashes between midnight and noon on Monday, Jan. 30.

Texas DPS would like to recognize the efforts of their partners at the Texas Department of Transportation in clearing and maintaining the roadways of the Permian Basin. At this time, Texas DPS encourages the motoring public to continue to practice winter driving safety.

City, county file grant applications for police body armor

A grant program started by Texas Governor Greg Abbott in 2018 may one day save the life of a Fort Stockton police officer. “We must do all we can to protect those who protect us,” the governor said when he signed Senate Bill 12 in 2018, funding a $23 million grant program designed to provide rifleresistant body armor to law enforcement.

County provides additional money cover IGT payments

The Pecos County Commissioner’s Court on Jan. 23 added an extra item to the regular agenda – providing additional funding for Pecos County Memorial Hospital and declaring an emergency. The money will help the hospital pay the money it owes to the county. County auditor Kay Hardwick received a spreadsheet from the hospital CFO detailing outstanding checks for 2022 – mainly reimbursements to the county.

City hears update on EDC projects

Fort Stockton is steadily seeing growth, and as a result, an increase in sales tax. Fort Stockton Economic Development Executive Director Remie Ramos gave his annual report to the Fort Stockton City Council, Monday night, and said the city has seen a $255,000 increase in sales tax from 2021-2022 as the country shakes off the fog of the COVID- 19 pandemic.

Senator Blanco appointed to Senate committees for 88th Texas Legislature

Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick announced Senate committee assignments for the 88th Texas Legislature on Jan. 23.

Capital Highlights: Border security, tax relief and raises top list

For the Texas House and Senate, there is not much daylight between each chamber’s priorities in this year’s legislative session. Leaders say the focus will be on property tax relief, border security and employee raises. Preliminary budgets from both chambers were released last week, the Austin American-Statesman reported, with a record $288.7 billion budget for the next two years. The money in the budget is made up of $93.7 billion in federal funds, $130.1 billion in state general revenue funds, and $64.9 billion in other funds.
