Gene Cummings Park renovations continue

Work is continuing the revitalization of Gene Cummings Park, and the latest is the purchasing of irrigation equipment for water reclamation, bathroom improvements and pavilion renovations, approved by the Fort Stockton 4-B Economic Development Corporation at its February meeting. A public hearing on the item was without opposition.

SpringsFest adds new wrinkle to March 11 event

Until it was pumped dry in the 1960s, Comanche Springs was among Texas’ six largest springs, flowing at least 30 million gallons a day onto the dry earth of Pecos County. The springs created a desert oasis that earned Fort Stockton the title of Spring City across West Texas.

City applies for USDA grant

Fort Stockton’s city council on Feb. 27 approved Resolution 23-106R, which authorizes the city to apply for a grant for assistance under the rules and regulations of Rural Utilities Service from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Comanche campus to be demolished in next 4 months

Fort Stockton Independent School District’s longest standing campus will soon be demolished following a decision made by the school board on Monday. The Fort Stockton ISD School Board unanimously approved a demolition bid from West Texas Contractors, in the amount of $332,750 on Feb.

FSFS to screen Dr. Strangelove Feb. 25

The Fort Stockton Film Society is showing the classic Stanley Kubrick dark comedy, Dr. Strangelove, on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 7:00 p.m. As an added feature, there will be a classic Warner Brothers cartoon screened just before the main feature.
