Abbott updates on state wildfire response efforts in Canadian

Governor Abbott held a briefing with state and local officials and provided an update on Texas’ continued wildfire response efforts at a press conference in Canadian. “As Texas experiences the largest wildfire in the history of our state, we remain ready to deploy every available resource to ensure communities in the Panhandle have the help they need to stay safe and work their way towards recovery,” said Governor Abbott.

The future of healthcare services in Pecos County and beyond is a bright one thanks to Fort Stockton High School’s Health Occupational Students of America chapter. The FSHS chapter of HOSA is part of the Career and Technology program and is in just its second year of existence.

Fort Stockton High School HOSA members headed to State Competition

Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Fort Stockton High School Chapter will have seven Fort Stockton High School students attending the State Leadership Conference and Competition. Midland College Health Sciences Instructor Olivia Falcon serves as FSHS HOSA Chapter Advisor. Olivia has been working with the more than 30 students, who are either currently enrolled in dual credit Health Sciences courses, took classes in Fall 2023, or are currently in dual credit Nurse Aide or Pharmacy Technician courses with Midland College at the WRTTC that competed in online testing in November 2023. Six students advanced to Area completion in January. The HOSA Bowl team consisting of a team of four will compete in April at the State HOSA Competition in Galveston. Three additional students will attend the Leadership Conference portion of the conference representing Midland College and Fort Stockton High School for a total of seven students experiencing the networking of future healthcare professionals from across the State.
