School board honors top February students, hears more about ag barn

The Fort Stockton Independent School District held its regularly scheduled meeting on Feb. 21 and honored five Students of the Month for the month of February. The five students were nominated by teachers at their respective campuses and received a certificate from the school board for their efforts. Juan Saldana began the recognition with Apache Elementary School Kindergarten student Sophia Cruz.

City approves abandonment, replat for new Dollar General

Fort Stockton will soon have a new Dollar General, and the city council took one more step to making it a reality by closing two alleyways and replating a little more than one acre of land (13,200 square feet) adjacent to Eighth Street, Park Street, Dickinson Blvd., and Alamo Street (the triangle intersection of Dickinson and U.S. 285). Property Owners Noel Ornelas Melendez and Erika Escontrias Rivera made the request, and the city held a public hearing in which no members of the public spoke before the council approved Ordinance 24-103.

City Council hears pros, cons of ag barn in city limits

The ongoing saga of a new Agricultural Sciences “Ag Barn” facility for Fort Stockton High School made its way to city hall last Thursday, as those for and against a new facility filled the council chambers for the regularly scheduled city council meeting. The item was listed under “Presentations” on the agenda, which means the item was not up for a vote by the council.
