Awards for Cheer

The Junior Varsity and Varsity cheerleaders attended Summer Cheer Camp from June 8 to 11 at Angelo State University. The Junior Varsity squad was awarded one Superior trophy, while the Varsity received the School Tradition Award. Senior mascot Avan Lujan was awarded the Mascot Tradition trophy and All-American Mascot medal. Senior Lizeth Robles received an America Needs Cheerleader pin for her leadership. This pin is forwarded from the UCA staff and other schools, showing leadership and helping other squads in need. Receiving this pin is a big honor and a great accomplishment for cheerleading. Five cheerleaders were selected as All-American Cheerleaders by the UCA staff and received individual medals for their achievements. Receiving All-American Cheerleader were sophomores Jaelynn Tapp and Erika Salgado, junior Jocelyn Carrillo, and seniors Aubrie Salgado and Abriel Villarreal.

West Texas Water Research Center Coming to Sul Ross State University

ALPINE – Thanks to funding from the Horizon Foundation, a West Texas Water Research Center will soon be established at Sul Ross State University (SRSU) in Alpine. The Horizon Foundation has committed a $125,000 per year challenge grant over the next three years to help launch the new center, which will be incubated at the university’s Borderlands Research Institute (BRI).

Alpine Cowboys Dominate Pecos Bills in Sweep

The Alpine Cowboys continued their scorching start to the season, sweeping their Pecos Bills counterparts in all five games played last week. This dominant stretch extends their record to a leagueleading 17-1, putting them firmly in control of the Mountain Division.

Highschool Summer Camps open to incoming and current athletes Fort Stockton High School announced upcoming summer camps for 2024. Swimming sessions are $90 a session, while all other camps are $40 per camp.
