Rare bloom grows at FS residence

Body
Fort Stockton resident Pam Rubio woke up to a superbloom of wildflowers near her front yard after the recent heavy rains. Local resident Pam Rubio woke up to hundreds of wildflower blooms in her front yard after the frequent rainfall this month. As a succulent aficionado, Rubio shared that this was a bloom she’s never seen before in the 19-years she lived in her house. Rubio believes the eye-popping flora to be a type of shaggy portulaca pilosa, commonly known as “chisme”. “I’ve looked and have yet to see those flowers bloom like they did that day,” she shared thinking back on October’s impressive display. Tyrades! by Danny Tyree “Where’s your Bayer?” I vividly remember that question from my high school job working in a convenience market in my Tennessee hometown. A buxom young lady from out-of-town posed the query and I helpfully directed her to the section of the store showcasing our aspirin, bandages, Merthiolate, etc.

From the Pulpit

Body
We often scurry around like the critters that are stocking up on their food supplies for the winter at this time of year. The holidays are coming up. We have Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and Kwanza, and New Year’s in our sights. Many folks also treat Halloween as if it were a national holiday! We want the holidays to be perfect, so we start buying things in October, or quite often, even earlier in the year, perhaps as early as June or with Christmas in July. I know many people who go to all the sales on December 26th each year to by all of the perfect things that they need for the next year’s holiday celebrations.
