Half the country has no idea why the front page of Thursday’s New York Post was so hilarious. That’s because, thanks to the liberal media, half of the country still has no idea who Hunter Biden is, or why he is in trouble for raking in millions for his extended family from foreign businessmen by selling access to his father Joe’s “brand” and political influence.

Irealize such headgear has fallen out of style in our self-esteemobsessed culture, but maybe I should belatedly don a dunce cap. You see, one of my first columns (nearly 25 years ago) was a snarky dismissal of the nascent homeschooling movement.

Olivia Sanchez Jasso, 81, of Fort Stockton, Texas passed away on Aug. 20, 2023, in Midland, Texas. 

Olivia was born in Presidio, Texas to Juan and Maria Sanchez on Jan. 29, 1942. She attended Fort Stockton High School and graduated from Sul Ross University in Alpine with a degree in education. On Oct. 21, 1962 she married Ramon Jasso, the man of her dreams. Together they made their home in Fort Stockton, where they made a beautiful home for their three daughters, Laurie, Mellissa, and Tanya.

FSISD trustees hear FFA update

Fort Stockton FFA Chapter President Ector Martínez and Fort Stockton FFA Chapter Secretary/ Big Bend Chapter Reporter Madison Hanson gave a presentation to the Fort Stockton ISD Board of Trustees on Aug. 2, highlighting the accomplishments of the Fort Stockton FFA Chapter. The chapter competed in two career development events – one in San Angelo and one in Alpine. Hanson was second overall individual and Martinez third and as a team, Fort Stockton placed first.

FSCT to present ‘Bonnie and Clyde’

Fort Stockton Community Theatre announces that tickets are on sale for the performances of the musical “Bonnie and Clyde,” written and performed by Texas Comedies of Austin, Texas. Georgia and Bentley King/Southwest Marketers are sponsoring the show which will be Saturday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 27, at 2 p.m. at The Nelson Street Theatre 102 South Nelson Street.

Fort Stockton Film Society to screen Return to Giant, Aug. 19

In the summer of 1955 an army of actors, prop masters and camera men arrived in the tiny town of Marfa to film “the national movie of Texas,” Giant. So what happened during their short stay there? That is the premise of the 58-minute documentary, Return to Giant, which will screen this Saturday, August 19, at the Nelson Street Theater at 7:00 pm. Doors will open at 6:30.
