In the summer of 1955 an army of actors, prop masters and camera men arrived in the tiny town of Marfa to film “the national movie of Texas,” Giant. So what happened during their short stay there? That is the premise of the 58-minute documentary, Return to Giant, which will screen this Saturday, August 19, at the Nelson Street Theater at 7:00 pm. Doors will open at 6:30.

Return to Giant was a finalist at South by Southwest in 1996, and also earned a “Best Documentary” award from the Lone Star Film Festival that year. It is narrated by native Texan Don Henley of the Eagles, and has been shown nationally on PBS and Turner Classic Movies.

Return to Giant was produced by Fort Stockton resident Kirby Warnock, who will be on hand at the screening to introduce the film and take part in a Q&A following. The screening is free, courtesy of the Fort Stockton Film Society, but donations are gladly accepted.
