Chavez, No. 1 Monterey put on a show in Fort Stockton

Fort Stockton’s Special Events Center played host to a rare spectacle in the city on Friday evening as the No. 1 ranked Lubbock Monterey Lady Plainsmen and star sophomore Aaliyah Chavez took to the court against the No. 25 ranked El Paso Burges Lady Mustangs in a 5A area round clash.

USDA announces conservation reserve signup

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that agricultural producers and private landowners can begin applying for the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) General signup starting February 27 through April 7, 2023. CRP is a cornerstone voluntary conservation program offered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and a key tool in the Biden-Harris administration’s effort to address climate change and help agricultural communities invest in the long-term well-being of their land and natural resources.

Panther Baseball loses season-opening shootout

The Fort Stockton varsity baseball team faced a 16-7 deficit heading into the final inning of their season opener on the road against Brownfield. The Panthers scored eight runs in the top of the seventh inning and had the tying run at third base with two outs but were unable to complete the comeback in a 15-14 defeat.
