Farmers can now make 2023 crop year elections

Agricultural producers can now change election and enroll in the Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage programs for the 2023 crop year, two key safety net programs offered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Signup began Monday, and producers have until March 15, 2023, to enroll in these two programs. Additionally, USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) has started issuing payments totaling more than $255 million to producers with 2021 crops that have triggered payments through ARC or PLC.

Cub Scout sign-up night to be held at Apache Elementary

The Texas Southwest Council of the Boy Scouts of America is excited to announce the “Cub Scout Sign Up Night” at Apache Elementary Cafeteria on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 5:30 p.m. where both boys and girls in kindergarten and first grade can join scouting. “This is an exciting way to invite families to enjoy access to the character development and values-based leadership opportunities that scouting provides,” Scout Executive David Koehler said.”Cub Scouting is more than just an activity. It’s adventure, learning, and discovery around every corner. From STEM to exploring the outdoors, your son or daughter will be on the path to discovering their very best “future self”and they’ll have fun doing it.”

Trails of Time Living History event returns

Pecos County Historical Commission members and the Goodnight-Loving Trail Foundation announced plans for the third annual Horsehead Crossing Trails of Time Living History event on Oct. 28-29 at Horsehead Crossing on the Pecos River. Last year’s event was given the Distinguished Service Award by the Texas Historical Commission, one of only three awards given statewide.
Re-enactors were fully invested in last year’s event, wearing attire that matches the time period (16th-19th century) that is represented during the celebration at Horsehead Crossing. They will do so again this year. Courtesy Photo

Day of the Dead celebration to be held Nov. 1-2

A Memorial Arch from Faith and Grief Ministries will make its first appearance in Fort Stockton adjacent to the Day of the Dead Ofrenda/ Alter, which will be at the porch of the old Original Café on First Street behind Fort Stockton Community Theatre, Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 1-2.
