Roadrunners eat scorpions in the wild, but that wasn’t the case for Paisano Pete and Scotty. The rare crossing of a giant roadrunner and giant scorpion occurred earlier this month after a casual pit stop at the local Dairy Queen.

Celebration announced at Horsehead Crossing

Pecos County Historical Commission Chairman Paul Weatherby announced a two-day celebration at historic Horsehead Crossing on the Pecos River to be held Nov. 5-6. The event was first held in 2020 to commemorate the various historical figures who passed over this wellknown crossing throughout the 16th-19th centuries, including the Comanche War Trail, the Emigrant Trail, the Butterfield Overland Stage, and the Goodnight-Loving Trail, made famous by Larry McMurtry’s Lonesome Dove.

Despite the many blessings of living in America, why aren’t more Americans happy? According to World Population Review, the 2021 World Happiness Report ranks America as the 19th happiest out of 146 countries. The report bases happiness on six categories, including gross domestic product, social support, life expectancy, generosity, perceptions of each country’s corruption levels, and the freedom for citizens to make their own life choices.

Jackson, Perez punch tickets to state XC meet

For the first time in their high school cross country careers, Fort Stockton sophomore Ali Jackson and junior Fabian Perez qualified for the state cross country meet. The duo showed tremendous improvement from a season ago to accomplish the feat on Oct.

Panthers win first district outing in double OT

With the game on the line in double overtime on a fourth-and-eight, Fort Stockton didn’t hesitate to go away from their strong suit – their ever reliable running game. The Panthers had over 2,500 yards rushing and 27 scores on the ground heading into Friday’s contest against Lake View – numbers that are over three times greater than Fort Stockton’s passing statistics.
