Starting out in life, close friends Olga Gonzalez and Santa Acosta learned education can take you far, no matter where you came from. Their parents taught them that getting an education provides a pathway to success that many such as themselves did not have.

There are many signs that summer is here, including hot weather, full swimming pools, and sunlight until after 9 p.m. Another sign is that sweet corn is starting to show up at grocery stores, farmers market, and street corners. We planted sweet corn in a garden where I grew up, so seeing it reminds me of my childhood. I’d spend a day or two in the kitchen with my mom, sister, and grandmas, freezing sweet corn so we could enjoy it throughout the winter.

The Fort Stockton City Council approved the purchase of a new sanitation truck at their regular meeting July 27. The city will acquire a 2020 Freightliner M2 Class 8, more specifically a 36-Yard Side Loader Sanitation Truck, for $240,092.00 from GSP Marketing with the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) Cooperative Purchasing Program.
