Fort Stockton XC teams qualify for regionals

Ali Jackson and Juan Vela went to Andrews on Tuesday and came home with gold, each capturing individual district championships for the Fort Stockton High School cross country program at the district meet. The Prowlers and Panthers placed second in their respective divisions and will compete Oct. 24 at the regional meet in Lubbock.

The runners worked very hard to earn the right to compete in the district meet,” head coach Sergio Guardiola said.

The Fort Stockton volleyball downed Andrews 3-1 in a home contest at the Special Events Center on Oct. 8. The Prowlers improved their district record to 2-3 with the win and will head into Tuesday's rematch against Greenwood looking to secure a two-game win streak.

Prowlers secure key district volleyball win

The Fort Stockton Prowlers volleyball squad was singing “Sweet Home Fort Stockton,” Saturday afternoon. After a long stretch of district road matches, the Prowlers were back in the friendly confines of the Bill and Virginia Williams Special Events Center and took down Andrews 25-17, 24-26, 25-19, 26-24 to move to 2-3 in district play.

Panthers blank Lions in district opener, remain undefeated

Playing mistake free ball has been one of the primary focuses of Fort Stockton head coach Jeremy Hickman and his coaching staff since the start of the season.

The Panthers (6-0) won their first five games by an average of 23 points per game despite committing 17 turnovers.

Fort Stockton showed they had made tremendous strides in that department and gave their fans insight into their potential on Thursday in their district opener against Clint (2-4).

Fort Stockton began district play with their most complete performance of the season on Thursday against Clint. The 41-0 victory marked the fifth time in the past decade that the Panthers won a district game by at least 40 points.

Fort Stockton’s lone undefeated regular season in school history went down in the record books in 1978. This year’s Panthers squad enters district play on Thursday, Oct. 6 against Clint (2-3) with the ability to become the second team to accomplish the feat and garner a district title for only the second time in the past 12 seasons.

Fort Stockton Prowler volleyball falls at Seminole

Nearly finished with a 5-game district road trip, the Fort Stockton Prowlers volleyball squad visited Seminole on Oct. 1 with the varsity falling in four sets to the Maidens. Amaya Urias led the Prowlers with eight kills in the four-set (25-20, 25-18, 19-25, 25-21) defeat. Aryanna Gonzalez held down the defense, recording 25 digs, three assists and two aces. Eliana Mata followed up with 24 digs, 20 assists, four kills and two aces. Alyssa Rangel added 12 assists and nine digs. Mia Garcia added seven kills and Sophia Hernandez recorded six.

Swimmers compete at UTPB

The Fort Stockton High School swim team competed at the University of Texas Permian Basin swim meet Sunday in Odessa, and several swimmers turned in good times. Junior Luke Pules competed in both the boys 50 and 100-yard freestyle events, placing 12th in the 50 free and 18th in the 100 free Freshman Liam Pules recorded his best time in the 50 free to place 11th, and improved his time by 7 seconds in the 100 freestyle to place 15th. Pules recorded wins in both his heats at the meet.
