Fort Stockton will look to make it four in a row this upcoming Friday in their homecoming game against Crane (1-2).

Mendoza to headline boxing event in Midland

Body

Fort Stockton born boxer Abel Mendoza is a young star on the rise in the sport and could soon be in the big leagues of the boxing world.

Local fans will get the rare and potentially one of the last opportunities to see the undefeated lightweight (34-0) on the regional scene later this month.

The 25-year-old will be featured in the main event of the Midtown Beatdown Professional Boxing event at The Hacienda Event Center in Midland on Sept. 24.

The Panthers cruised to a 27-0 victory against the Bucks in Alpine behind a suffocating defense and a strong run game on a rainy evening. The shutout victory was their seventh in the past decade and their first under new head coach Jeremy Hickman.

JV White claims victory over Permian The junior varsity White team defeated Permian in three sets (25-15, 21-25, 15-4) to claim Fort Stockton’s only victory over the 6A Panthers. The Prowlers freshman squad fell to Permian 25-11, 25-19.

Prowlers down Odessa High in rematch

The Fort Stockton volleyball team got back to their winning ways and did so in impressive fashion in a rematch against Odessa High on Sept. 6 at home.

The Prowlers were able to sweep the Broncos once again, doing so 10 days after their first meeting in the semifinals of the Comanche Classic.

Jackson, Hinojos continue XC success

Body

Facing superior challenges during the season bodes well for success in the postseason.

The Fort Stockton cross country program was put to the test in their trip to Big Spring on Sept. 3 to compete in the Eric Stinson Invitational.

A total of four runners from the Panther and Prowler squads placed inside the top 10 after working their way through a course that featured a variety of elevation changes, including a 110-feet change in the 5K race.

The Fort Stockton volleyball team will host Permian today with the varsity and freshman team scheduled to play at 5 p.m. The JV Blue and JV White team will play at 4 p.m.

The Prowlers are 19 days away from district play and have six non-district games remaining. Their current overall record is 14-8.
