In their first meeting of the season 23 days ago, Greenwood got the best of Fort Stockton on the Panthers home floor by a 46-point margin (89-43). Fort Stockton showed improvement in their second meeting with the Rangers but could not come away with a win in a 62-32 defeat on the road.

Football: Garcia named to TSWA all-state third team

The Texas Sports Writers Association released their all-state teams last week and two Panthers were recognized for their extraordinary performances on the gridiron this past fall. Senior wide receiver and defensive back Isaiah Garcia was selected to the Texas Sports Writers Association Class 4A-2 All-State Football Third Team as a utility player.

Panther powerlifters place third in district

The Fort Stockton Panthers Powerlifting team competed in the district meet on Thursday and finished third overall with 11 of the 12 lifters posting personal record totals. The following is the Panther results for their respective weight divisions: 114 – Jonas Milan, third place 123 – Mario Morales, third place 132 – Louie Ramos, fourth place 148 – Leeland Ibarra, first place 165 – Fabian Silva, third place 181 – Jovanny Hernandez, first place 181 – Jose Hernandez, fourth place 198 – Justin Sanchez, first place 220 – Jose Sarabia, fifth place 242 – Ethan Jimenez, fifth place 275 – Andres Sotelo, second place 308 – Oasis Webb, fourth place The Panthers will compete in the Pecos LCQ on Feb.

Golf teams open season in Pecos

The Panthers and Prowlers golf teams traveled to Pecos for the 2023 Pecos Invitational Feb. 10-11 and competed well for the first tournament of the year according to Fort Stockton head coach Lea Daggett.

Prowlers open softball season with run-rule win

Pitchers who can hit the outside corner of the strike zone have had some success against the Fort Stockton Prowlers in the past, and in Tuesday night’s season-opener against Presidio, pitcher Valerie Armendariz was successful in keeping Fort Stockton off balance – for the first two outs of the first inning, at least. 

But the Prowler bats came alive with a two-out rally and Fort Stockton dominated Presidio, 11-1.

Sanchez sisters net 31, lead Buena Vista to bi-district title

Marfa scored 28 points in Tuesday’s opening-round 1A playoff game against Buena Vista.

The Lady Longhorns’ Sanchez sisters, Ireland and Genova, surpassed that total, scoring a combined 31 points in their first postseason appearance together.

The 1A District 10 runner-up Lady Longhorns secured a 26-15 lead by halftime and led by double digits the entire second half on their way to a 47-28 victory.

Mata chosen for FCA all-star volleyball game

Body

The Fort Stockton High School Volleyball program is ecstatic to announce the selection of Eliana "Lala" Mata to the inaugural Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Permian Basin Volleyball All-Star Game. The senior will be competing among various volleyball players from around the Permian Basin.
