Golf: Fort Stockton teams place 2nd in Pecos

Fort Stockton Middle School played host to its own golf tournament over the weekend – in Pecos – with the Panther and Prowler golfers having a strong showing . The Panthers “A” Team finished the tournament in second place.

The Fort Stockton Middle School Panthers traveled to Monahans for their final meet of the season April 22, for the District meet. “Everybody came out and played their very best yet,” said head coach Anette Posada.

Panthers upset Eagles on the road

Fort Stockton leadoff hitter Adrian Hernandez and freshman Gerry Diaz led the Panthers to a 10-2 victory on April 21 at Pecos, tallying three hits apiece in their second-to-last regular season contest.

The Panthers plated seven runs in the final inning to secure their third district win and snap their four-game losing skid.

Diaz’s RBI triple highlighted the Panthers offensive success in the seventh frame.

Jackson advances to regional track meet

Junior Ali Jackson became a three-time regional qualifier on Thursday at the Prowlers’ area track meet in Canyon.

Jackson placed fourth in both the 400-meter dash and the 200. The upperclassman clocked the second sub-minute 400 time of her career and personal-record 59.56 seconds en route to her area qualification.

Jackson’s 26.64 second 200 meter time was also a personal record, topping her previous best mark by .10 seconds.

Panther track and field: Hodges, 800 relay win area titles

Six Panthers punched their ticket to the regional track meet and Fort Stockton finished in third place as a team on Thursday at the 4A District 3-4 Area Track & Field Championships at West Texas A&M University in Canyon.

Zane Hodges added another individual area title to his resume after claiming gold in the 110 hurdles a season ago.

Diaz’s 9 K’s not enough as Panther bats go frigid

On the hill, Fort Stockton freshman starting pitcher Gerry Diaz had ice in his veins during his 4 2/3 innings stint on April 14 against Greenwood. Diaz ended three of the first four innings with a strikeout, including a bases loaded jam in the second frame, and tied a careerhigh strikeout total with nine K’s in his fifth start of the season.

Prowlers upset Mustangs to end 2023 campaign

Their best was saved for last.

In their season finale at Andrews on Tuesday, the Prowlers softball team stunned the district runner-up Mustangs with a 17-hit offensive showcase.

Fort Stockton maintained the lead for all seven innings of the contest and held off a Mustang seventh-inning rally to secure a 12-10 victory.
